OPN: What made you choose Orthopaedics?
RB: The option to combine clinical with working with your hands. The technical aspect and developments is very interesting and challenging.

OPN: Where did you train?
RB: Belgium, Antwerp 5 years and the UK, London, UCLH, 1 year

OPN: What are your specialist areas?
RB: Primary Hip reconstruction, revision hips Trauma.

OPN: What are the best and worst aspects of your job?
RB: The best aspect is the freedom of choice. The worst aspect is dealing with commercial activities.

OPN: Are there any developments in orthopaedics that excite you?
RB: The development of new materials and techniques.

OPN: What are your thoughts on surgeons who receive financial benefits for using a company’s products?
RB: It depends on what the benefits are. To spend on research and development is useful and needed.

OPN: Are patients becoming too knowledgeable on joint replacement and the implants that are used?
RB: Not at all, they have commercial knowledge, however all medical background is lacking.

OPN: Is it right that surgeons are rated and reviewed by patients on the website www.iwantgreatcare.org?
RB: I do not see it as a big issue.

OPN: What aspect of the industry would you change, if you could?
RB: Honesty and patient interest seems to be underdeveloped sometimes.
