Mr James B Newman. MB,ChB. MRCS. FRCS(Trauma & Orth)

Jim Newman studied medicine at Manchester University, and after graduating in 1999 subsequently spent 5 years training in a wide variety of surgical specialties in the Manchester area. In 2005, Jim moved across the Pennines and spent the next 6 years as a Specialist Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedics gaining a wide range of surgical experience within this field. During this time he developed a keen interest in sports injuries, knee injuries and the treatment of knee pain. He found it particularly rewarding working with young patients with a degenerate knee that often led to disabling pain in patients at the prime of their lives. Jim sought to develop his expertise in finding treatment solutions for this challenging group of patients.

Jim undertook a specialist knee surgery fellowship in Sheffield in 2010. He worked alongside 2 of the UK’s most renowned knee surgeons, learning in depth surgical techniques for all aspects of knee surgery, particulary arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction and computer navigated surgery.

He was then appointed as a consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2010. Jim is purely focussed on knee problems and treats a wide range of conditions including ACL reconstruction, partial knee replacements, Osteotomy, and cartilage regeneration techniques amongst others. He has helped develop a gold standard knee service for the Mid Yorkshire area, implementing an trust-wide enhanced recovery programme, and was appointed the Lead Surgeon for Elective Orthopaedic surgery at the trust in 2012.

Outside of normal clinical duties, Jim is heavily involved with education of doctors and surgeons in training. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor, an examiner for Mock Higher surgical exams, and regularly gives educational Lectures to Orthopaedic Registrars
