Lisbon all set to host the largest cross-border congress dedicated to orthopaedics and trauma in Europe

A look ahead to the 20th EFORT Annual Congress 2019, taking place from 5-7 June 2019, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The annual meeting of EFORT is one of the largest platforms for European orthopaedic healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and experience within Europe, but also with colleagues from other parts of the world. To celebrate this 20th anniversary, the Science Committee has created a varied programme for both young and experienced delegates, covering topics from basic research, to areas within daily practice of orthopaedics and trauma.

The main theme of the Congress this year is Registries & Impact on Practice and highlights include patient and implant selection, patient safety, value-based healthcare, implant survival, and quality improvement.

The format of the meeting will encourage interaction between participants with both symposia, instructional lectures and interactive expert exchange sessions given by distinguished speakers from all over Europe. Other sessions will include complex case discussion sessions, total hip and total knee replacement, as well as free papers and clinical case submissions from all over the world.

This year, EFORT are inviting their industry partners to attend a lunchtime symposium to discuss the impact of the new Medical Device Regulations (MDR) introduced by the EU Commission over the past couple of years.

It is a reflection of the importance that the EFORT Board attaches to MDRs and its implications to the industry, on its way of working, its impact on encouraging innovation and the safety and health of patients, that they have organized a symposium dedicated to MDR during lunchtime on Friday 7 June.

There will be speakers representing the MedTech industry, Notified Bodies, and EU Commission, as well as surgeons, each sharing their views on the regulations, processes and consequences on day-to-day practice. This will be followed
by a panel discussion, where questions and views from the floor are seen as an essential part of voicing the core issues and finding the best solutions.

Delegates can discover all the details of the planned symposia, debate forum, evidence-based medi
