The Anatomic Double Bundle MPFL Reconstruction technique replicates the native shape of the MPFL and provides the best possible stability in both flexion and extension. The Double Bundle technique also effectively limits rotation throughout the ROM minimising postoperative instability.

An important determinant of a successful outcome of MPFL reconstruction is the proper position of the femoral fixation of the graft, the Arthrex MPFL technique incorporates the use of a femoral template to ensure proper placement of the graft in the femur. This position provides a static fixation point that equalises the tension across the graft in flexion and extension, thus minimising the stresses across the patellofemoral joint.

The technique utilises 4.75 mm SwiveLock® anchors, which provide a tenodesis-type fixation on the patella, allowing the graft to be inserted into the bone and fixed securely. The technique also allows the patella to be fixed first, and the double strand graft to be tensioned through the femoral socket. The MPFL Convenience Pack provides an all-in-one solution for MPFL reconstruction, with a detailed surgical technique, the femoral template and all the implants and disposables to perform the procedure.
