Great Western Hospital, Swindon, have just invested in the latest OrthoScan direct digital Mini C-Arm technology from a local imaging specialist – Gloucestershire-based independent medical equipment supplier Xograph Healthcare.

The extremely compact design of the ‘OrthoScan FD’ Mini C-Arm releases valuable space when used in the operating room and its lightweight frame offers great manoeuvrability and ease of movement when in clinical use. The OrthoScan FD’s flat panel direct digital image receptor replaces a traditional image intensifier and provides distortion-free images with very high spacial and contrast resolution. DICOM 3.0 connectivity allows images to be transferred rapidly to PACS for reporting and archiving.

David Williamson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Great Western Hospital, says: “We have found the OrthoScan mini C-Arm to be extremely useful and convenient for imaging of our foot and ankle surgical cases. No waiting for a radiographer to come to theatre teamed with the ability to get the right orientation for our imaging and good quality image is excellent.”

Stuart Wade, Orthopaedic Team Manager in the operating theatres at Great Western Hospital agreed, saying: “It’s an excellent piece of kit, very user-friendly and a fantastic tool for improving Theatre efficiency. Our throughput has increased since we started using this machine.”
