14-15 June 2016 – Basic techniques in arthroscopic surgery, London

Overview: You will learn about the basic anatomy of the knee and clinical assessment of the common knee conditions and their management using arthroscopic techniques. This course will also address basic arthroscopic techniques on the shoulder and consists of hands-on minimal access workshop using unembalmed cadaveric tissue. The course is aimed at those aspiring to a career in orthopaedic surgery.

Content:

  • Managing meniscal pathology
  • Managing chondral pathology
  • Diagnostic knee arthroscopy
  • Removal of loose bodies
  • Synovial biopsy
  • Partial menisectomy
  • Meniscal repair (principles and basic repair techniques with one technique for practice)
  • Chondroplasty
  • General discussions about relevant knee pathologies
  • Diagnostic arthroscopy of the shoulder
  • Subacromial decompression

By the end of the course participants will:

  • understand the surface anatomy of the knee and shoulder;
  • familiarise themselves with the equipment – arthroscopy instruments, meniscal instruments, chondro-plasty instruments;
  • have developed an understanding of the appropriate provision of postoperative care;
  • have developed an understanding of how to manage common complications.
