Review: Implants 2016: another successful event

Implants 2016, a top-level conference for contract manufacturers and orthopaedics companies, was held in Paris at the Elysées Biarritz Conference Center on 7 June 2016.

The conference focused on changes in manufacturing techniques and purchasing strategies, and in particular on additive manufacturing – the hot topic of recent years.

More than 200 decision-makers attended the conference from the USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Western Europe, Australia, and other countries.

Mr Ali Madani, CEO of French consulting firm Avicenne, opened the conference with a welcome address followed by a seminar on the orthopaedic market and one on contract manufacturing. Mr Madani has worked on strategic and marketing studies in the medical sector since 1990, advising major orthopaedic device companies. He was also the Implants conference founder and has chaired the event since its creation in 2005.

After Mr Madani’s sessions, executives from Depuy Synthes, Tecomet, Paragon Medical, Stryker, Smith & Nephew, Zimmer, In’Tech Medical, Concept Laser, Eurocoating, TiRus International and Exactech discussed various trends, challenges and issues facing contract manufacturers. The following strategic questions were discussed during the conference:

– How can OEM and CM collaborations drive innovation?

– Additive Manufacturing session: From highly complex and customized manufacturing today to the mass market of tomorrow?

– Implants of the Future: Smart Implants, Robotic and assisted surgery, Biologics, bioresorbable raw materials, Anti-infection.
