Medical team exceed fundraising target with charity cycle

Total Orthopaedics along with Children’s TV presenter, Kiera-Nicole Brennan, exceeded their fundraising target at a charity cycle hosted by Static Cycle Studio (the latest indoor fitness studio) in South West London.

Held on Friday 25 September at 7pm, the event was livestreamed from Facebook and hosted by Static Cycle Studio’s lead trainer, Izzy, who led Kiera and the Total Orthopaedics team into a 45-minute intense cycling routine.

The fundraising target was exceeded by over 30 per cent, raising a total of £2,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity has launched an urgent fundraising appeal to raise £5 million to maintain its frontline services now at risk due to the Covid-19 Pandemic significantly reducing donations this year.

Total Orthopaedics, including some of their specialists and most of their partners, have witnesses first-hand the positive impact the charity has had on cancer patients and wanted to offer support in such vulnerable times for both patients and charity workers.

Mr Joyti Saksena, Consultant Hip, Knee & Sports Surgeon at Total Orthopaedics said: “The whole event went so well and it generated such a great energy that we all ended up having fun and getting fit at the same time. Most of us in the team have worked with hospital wards where we have seen the incredible work that the Teenage Cancer Trust do for patients.   We hope that this will be the start of many fundraising initiatives we do for the charity”.

Izzy of Static Fit said: “I love what I do but doing it for a cause like Teenage Cancer Trust was really inspiring knowing everyone was coming together for one common goal.”

Helen Farquharson, Senior Fundraising Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Every day, seven young people in the UK aged 13 to 24 hear the devastating words ‘you have cancer’. Teenage Cancer Trust’s special hospital wards, nurses and youth support teams are there to provide them with the emotional and practical support they need to get them and their families through some unimaginably hard times.  But everything our frontline team does is dependent on donations and the COVID-19 outbreak has seen our charity take a huge financial hit.  That’s why we’re so thankful to Total Orthopaedics and Static Fit for holding this fantastic high energy event and exceeding the target”.
